Here, pure aluminium is extracted from alumina by the Hall-Héroult process. Alumina is poured into electrolytic cells with a molten cryolite bath which operate at around 950 degrees Celsius. Under a high intensity of electrical current the bond between the aluminium and the oxygen atoms is forced to break, resulting in liquid aluminium dropping down to the bottom of the electrolytic cell.
